Getting Green Got You Blue?
RoHS/WEEE Solutions from the Leader in Analytical Instruments
The RoHS/WEEE Directive
Green manufacturing is a method of production that minimizes waste and pollution. Globally, there are a multitude of recent directives in the area of green manufacturing that impact producers, both in terms of material content of manufactured/sold goods as well as the recycling of electronic equipment. On February 13th 2003, two European Union Directives went into effect:
Directive 2002/96/EC (the WEEE directive targeting responsible recycling of electronic equipment)
Directive 2002/95/EC (the RoHS directive restricting the use of Cr6+, Hg, Cd, Pb PBB and PBDE). The RoHS directive takes effect July 1, 2006.
Certificates of compliance are not enough
While the responsibility for meeting RoHS requirements runs throughout the supply chain, simply providing certificates of compliance is not enough. Materials and components suppliers, PCB fabricators and even larger systems suppliers will also need to show some credible evidence/due diligence, (e.g. analytical test results). This can be addressed through a variety of methods, from XRF screening and other analytical testing on site, to out-sourcing of testing to certified RoHS analytical laboratories.
Meeting RoHS requirements does not have to be cost prohibitive.
Minimize your costs by choosing the right instrumentation for your manufacturing environment. Thermo’s portable and laboratory XRF devices provide economical screening of both raw materials as well as assemblies like PC boards, cables, etc. These instruments help lower costs by:
Identifying potential issues early in the manufacturing process
Delivering accurate and fast test results
For more demanding analytical testing needs, Thermo offers a variety of analytical instrumentation, such as GC/MS, atomic absorption spectroscopy, ICP, etc. to deliver accurate and fast test results, thus minimizing potential disruptions to your manufacturing process.
Thermo, your partner for RoHS and WEEE compliance
Thermo Electron Corporation is committed to RoHS compliance, both as a manufacturer/supplier and as a consumer, so we understand the need to ensure continuous product flow throughout production without driving up inventory costs. Thermo can enable you to assure your customers that they can be confident that the products you supply will meet the new regulations today and in the future.
